Be Nomadic | Kutchi Leather Products
Karan is a young Leather Craftsman and Entrepreneur. Learning from his father Bhoja Bhai, Karan’s family has practiced this craft through generations. Traditionally, leather artisans used to make daily utility products for locals and residents of the village. But with cheaper variety of products and market availability has replaced the demand of leather products. This is the reason, why out of 150-200 artisans, only Karan’s family continued with this traditional craft and the rest have quit. Post-earthquake, when they lost their homes and it was all devastated, the family managed to build a home out of mud and grass and continued with this craft. Karan is a role model for many young artisans of Kutch. Striving to carry on the traditional work in all its essence, Karan has crafted many new designs adapting them to modern products through his venture Karan Handicrafts. In 2019, Karan was awarded with the Certification of Excellence-2019 for his dedicated work and contribution to the craft.
