This Ajrakh hand block printed stole is a visually arresting piece of Kutch’s heritage craft, designed to be the focal point of any ensemble. The design is centered around a rare, large-scale "Chand" (moon) medallion—a bold circular motif filled with intricate floral and geometric details. This central icon sits atop a serene geometric lattice field, creating a sophisticated play of scale and symmetry. Developed using the legendary 16-step Ajrakh process, this stole is crafted from premium breathable cotton, offering a soft tactile feel and a majestic drape.
The design is defined by its masterful use of traditional iconography and tiered structural borders. The ends of the stole transition from the lattice field into a series of richly detailed bands featuring floral mandalas and "Mihrab" arched motifs. Rendered in a warm palette of terracotta, madder red, and deep indigo, each impression is made with hand-carved wooden blocks, requiring master-level precision to maintain the perfect circularity of the Chand motif and the sharp registration of the borders. Hand-finished teal tassels add a touch of artisanal movement and contrast.
The resonant color palette is achieved entirely through organic processes: the warm terracotta and peach tones from pomegranate rinds and madder root, the deep blues from natural indigo vats, and the dark outlines from iron mordants. These natural pigments provide a luminous depth of color that ages gracefully and is exceptionally gentle on the skin. The high-quality cotton ensures maximum air circulation, making it an ideal year-round accessory for adding a touch of heritage craft to a simple linen dress, a sharp blazer, or a traditional kurta.

The origin of Ajrakh can probably be older than we can imagine. Excavation sites of Indus Valley Civilization give evidence that Ajrakh was possibly one of the oldest printing methods the Indian subcontinent.
The etymology of “Ajrakh” can be traced to the Sanskrit word “a-jharat”, which means that which does not fade. Since indigo is one of the main colours of this textile, it is possible that Ajrak got its name from “Azrak”, which means “blue” in Arabic.
