Batik is a type of resist dying technique, achieved by using wax as the medim to resist the colour. In this method, the colour holds on to the fabric more strongly than printed fabrics and it does not fade easily. Due to the easy availability of raw materials and its adaptability, Batik has been introduced in many areas as a source of income generation to bring about a sustainable livelihood. The craft apart from its traditional intricate designs has evolved with the usage of brighter colours and new patterns to contemporary tastes over the last decade.
