This Ajrakh hand block printed stole is a masterclass in geometric energy and tonal balance. The design centers on a bold "zigzag" or "leheriya" body, where sharp, rhythmic lines in natural indigo and cream create a sense of movement across the deep chocolate brown base. Developed using the legendary 16-step Ajrakh process, this stole is crafted from premium breathable cotton, offering a soft tactile feel and a structured yet effortless drape.
The transition from the fluid zigzag field to the architectural border is particularly striking. The ends of the stole feature a series of large, eight-pointed stars—a classic Ajrakh symbol—each meticulously hand-stamped with intricate internal detailing. This leads into a final tier of "Mihrab" or arched motifs, providing a regal finish that anchors the modern energy of the body. The precision of the hand-carved wooden blocks is evident in the sharp registration of these motifs, ensuring the geometric narrative remains cohesive across the entire piece. Hand-finished madder red tassels add a refined touch of artisanal movement and warmth.
The sophisticated earthy palette is achieved entirely through organic processes: the rich chocolate browns are derived from iron-mordanted pomegranate, while the blue and red accents come from natural indigo and madder root. These organic pigments provide a luminous depth of color that is gentle on the skin and environmentally sustainable, with tones that develop a beautiful character with every wash. The high-quality cotton ensures maximum air circulation, making it a perfect year-round accessory for adding a touch of heritage craft to a professional blazer, a neutral linen tunic, or a traditional kurta.

The origin of Ajrakh can probably be older than we can imagine. Excavation sites of Indus Valley Civilization give evidence that Ajrakh was possibly one of the oldest printing methods the Indian subcontinent.
The etymology of “Ajrakh” can be traced to the Sanskrit word “a-jharat”, which means that which does not fade. Since indigo is one of the main colours of this textile, it is possible that Ajrak got its name from “Azrak”, which means “blue” in Arabic.
