Subrata Bhowmick lives in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India, and works field of Graphic design, Advertising Design, Exhibition Design and industrial Design for over Five Decades. He is a postgraduate from India's premier design school-
the National lnstitute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad, where ,as a student of Industrial Design he specialized in textiles. Later he studied in Europe and Japan.
Mr. Bhowmick is perhaps Indian's most lauded designer with over 6O prestigious national and international awards (18 of them being president of India awards) in Graphics, Advertising, Photography, Book Design and Packaging Design .His other areas of specialization are Textile Design (Printing, Weaving, Knitting) Fashion design, Environmental Design, Product Design, Exhibition Design, Interior Design, Magazine, Newspaper Design, Corporate Identity and Branding.
Mr. Subrata was awarded the Art Director of the Year , twice, by CAG, Graphic Designers Association of India, Mumbai and photographer of the year. He was the photographer, Designer and Publisher of 'Master Weavers',
a book created for the Festival of India 1982, in Great Britain.
He has been a prime academician key advisor at various academic institutes like NID, NIFT, MICA, Symbiosis, FLAME and GLS.
In 2016 Subrata was awarded , The Lifetime Achievement Award" by Edutainment AWARDS 2016 for his Contribution towards Communication & Design education. In 2017 he has been honored "Honorary Fellow 0f ADI" by ADI (Association of Designers of India) in recognition of his meritorious contribution in the field of design, handicrafts, mentorship and the high esteem in which he is held by members of the profession·
Presently he is concentrating on Communication and Product development for the Craft sector and Education. In addition, he finds time to conduct-design workshops for design and management students sharing his experience and deep understanding for the contextual framework of design in the real world.
