This Mulberry silk Ajrakh dupatta features a bold and innovative large-scale circular "Chand" (moon) block printed pattern, rendered in a classic palette of terracotta red and indigo blue. Developed using the prestigious 16-step Ajrakh hand block printing technique of Kutch, Gujarat, this dupatta is crafted from high-quality Mulberry silk, which lends a natural, sophisticated sheen and an elegant, fluid drape to the artisanal design.
The layout is visually arresting, featuring oversized circular medallions that house intricate geometric and floral details, framed by a repetitive scallop or fish-scale border within the field. Each motif is meticulously hand-stamped using hand-carved wooden blocks, requiring masterful registration to maintain the symmetry of the large circular forms. This "Chand" layout is a hallmark of high-fashion Ajrakh, blending ancient geometry with a contemporary scale.
The vibrant terracotta red is achieved through natural madder root (alizarin), while the deep, resonant blues are derived from multiple dips in natural indigo vats. The black outlines are created from fermented iron mordants. These natural pigments interact beautifully with the Mulberry silk fibers, creating a luminous depth of color that is skin-friendly and eco-conscious.

The origin of Ajrakh can probably be older than we can imagine. Excavation sites of Indus Valley Civilization give evidence that Ajrakh was possibly one of the oldest printing methods the Indian subcontinent.
The etymology of “Ajrakh” can be traced to the Sanskrit word “a-jharat”, which means that which does not fade. Since indigo is one of the main colours of this textile, it is possible that Ajrak got its name from “Azrak”, which means “blue” in Arabic.
