This Mulberry silk Ajrakh dupatta features a serene teal-indigo field adorned with a traditional "Jal-Phool" or floral net jaal. Developed using the heritage 16-step Ajrakh hand block printing technique of Kutch, Gujarat, this piece is crafted from premium Mulberry silk, providing a luxurious luster and a fluid, graceful drape that enhances the fine artisanal details.
The central field consists of a repetitive floral jaal, where small, delicate blossoms are encased in a soft geometric grid, creating a rhythmic and calming visual texture. This elegant center is anchored by heavy, multi-layered borders featuring intricate geometric bands, madder red stripes, and a solid deep indigo edge. Each motif is meticulously hand-stamped using hand-carved wooden blocks, requiring master-level precision to maintain the alignment of the dense floral net across the lustrous silk surface.
The soft teal and deep indigo tones are achieved through natural indigo vats, while the warm red accents in the border are derived from madder root. These natural pigments interact with the Mulberry silk fibers to create a rich, luminous depth of color that shifts elegantly with the movement of the fabric.

The origin of Ajrakh can probably be older than we can imagine. Excavation sites of Indus Valley Civilization give evidence that Ajrakh was possibly one of the oldest printing methods the Indian subcontinent.
The etymology of “Ajrakh” can be traced to the Sanskrit word “a-jharat”, which means that which does not fade. Since indigo is one of the main colours of this textile, it is possible that Ajrak got its name from “Azrak”, which means “blue” in Arabic.
